Le Thaï de Pereybere

The skinning of the crab is still a source of conflict worthy of the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu. Should we eat the flesh as we go along or prepare everything and eat all the flesh at the end? I am from the second school.

Probably the best little surprise of our trip to Mauritius, this Thai restaurant is badly placed in Pereybere. It is not in front of the beach, after a slightly dangerous turning, almost opposite the Winners supermarket and located on the first floor of the building. This means that you really want to go there!

After a first unsuccessful attempt because closed without clear reason, second attempt.

First of all a beautiful terrace. Not the best view in the world but we are up. There is (a little) less circulation in the head.

 

The main room is elegantly decorated, a large size, not at all with the kitsch aspect that is found too often.

For starters, we will try shrimp roulades as well as those with duck. The taste is there. Note the finishing work on the dough with a knotted central band. It is to this kind of small details that you see a particular attention in the work in kitchen.

The slices of chicken are good but cut too thinly. They have fried too quickly and are a little dry.

We would have liked the beef a little more raw. The waiter indicates that this was done at the beginning but that too many customers returned the dish because considering it not cooked enough. He indicates that if you warn, the cook adapts to the demand.

Special mention crab steam. Dish that becomes difficult to find in France because there is not enough demand. The Chinatown Olympiad in Paris made a succulent, steamed on sticky rice and lotus leaf.

Here, the cooking is broth, with small local crabs. The work is a little more tedious but it’s the pleasure of crab.

Classic banana fritters for dessert.

South African wine Blanc de noir in rosé. It is a lot of colors but it was perfect on the terrace with a small view of the sea.
