Vagenende – Paris – France
Everything but the color!
Very nice brasserie with interior architecture classified. Originally a Bouillon Chartier, then passed between several hands, it is saved from destruction by the inevitable Andre Malraux.
Beautiful Belle époque decor where the woodwork and golden chandeliers are reflected in infinity in the beveled mirrors.
The only fault of taste is in my opinion the new dominant color chosen for the seats, benches, logo and website. An indefinable green-blue that is not at all a “food” color. I know perfectly well that it is a sea-green very used in the nineteenth century in the decoration of many brasseries and bouillons, but sparingly. There is overdose.
The menu is very classic and well done, alternating with very old starters such as egg in aspic or onion soup and the more contemporary crab millefeuille or mozzarella buffala.
Same spirit for the menu, between a calf’s head and an increasingly rare veal liver then the inevitable cheeseburger d’Aubrac (because it’s fashionable!) Or the rack of lamb in the flower of thyme. A classic week-to-a-page menu for the regular customers.
Dessert menu without much originality (despite a poached pear with spices) but very honest.
As we are boulevard Saint-Germain, the inherent flaw of the neighborhood is a bill about 10% too expensive for what it is.
For example, the 6 snails (even “big” and Burgundy) to 15 euros, it kills. Moreover, the calibration of the snails is done according to the terms “average”, beautiful size “,”very big” and “extra big”. So the name “big” with a number “N ° 4”, to do like oysters, does not send me back to anything very precise. More marketing mystery to elucidate …
