La Vierge (de la réunion) – Paris – France
Well, that's not difficult!
Well, that’s not difficult! Well yes, it’s not that difficult to work well and serve a quality E/P/D menu at 20 euros! Some people can do it, and in Paris too! And without sinking into the steak and chips!
Or the famous baba ganoush, eggplant caviar that undergoes as many variations as cookers! Here, it is rather weakly (or even not at all) decorated with sesame cream. We have therefore a frank and fresh vegetable taste.
But it is on the whole roasted quail that we fall in a swoon before a simple and perfect work, a just cooked piece, some asparagus accompaniments. And all this for the price mentioned above.
And the originality does not slacken with a dessert that combines ice cream with sorrel, strawberries, and meringues. It should be remembered that sorrel, like tarragon or lavender, are plants that can spray a palate so poorly dosed. Here, it is literally perfect in balance and alliance of taste.
I had taken a very original Spumante troubled as an aperitif.
We suspect that the rest of the wine list is in the same vein of “small”, and original products at ultra-competitive prices.
My only real regret will be the abandonment of the old name of “Virgin of the Reunion” for simply “The Virgin”. This is understandable because 99% of the population thought that the restaurant offered recipes from the island of Reunion. While the meeting (réunion in french) invoked is that, in 1863, of the communes of the great and small Charonne.
